TRUE GRIT INSTRUCTION

PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR INSTRUCTION AND FREELANCE INSTRUCTION FOR CENTRES

DARKSIDE CAVING CLUB

www.true-grit-instruction.com

Welcome to the True Grit Instruction web site.

TGI is Pete Knight.

I am an instructor currently working at Edale YHA in the Peak District and as a self employed freelance instructor throughout the UK. This site exists to allow potential clients and employers to get a better look at me. I hope to generate freelance bookings through site traffic and I aim to use the site to promote a career in the outdoor industry.

I should make clear at this point that as of yet I am not set up as an activity provider. I currently am only looking for freelance work in existing outdoor pursuits environments. I would also be happy to be consulted on any technical issue relevant to the qualifications that I hold.

This site is currently under development and I would appreciate any feedback.

All photographs used on the site are mine or my girlfriends unless otherwise credited. Thank you for taking the time to look at my site, Pete.

A bit about me: I love all aspects of the outdoors and I am dedicated to my job. 5 years in the Cadet Force and a school with an excellent outdoor activity program generated my passion for the outdoors. You won't here me harping on about how pretty the Alps were last time I was there. I believe that the wild places in this country are second to none. The UK has some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in the world, although perhaps not the biggest.

I began with holidays in the mountains of Wales and Cumbria. This quickly led me into the world of rock climbing. After escaping the farm smells of Somerset I found myself in the Yorkshire Dales. Here I had my first taste of caving. From there it was a short hop to the North York Moors, not the most renowned national park, but its secrets kept me there for a few years. Since moving to the Peak District I have developed a real passion for caving and it seems that a vast amount of my free time is spent wallowing around in mud and water on the way to my C.I.C.

I hope to drag myself back into the daylight and start on the road to the Winter Mountain Leader this Christmas but I fear my skin will be the same colour as the snow. And then there's always the M.I.A. to chase...

Enjoy my site and don't forget- I am always looking for work, you can get in contact on the relevant page.

Derbyshire's newest caving club has been born. The Darkside Caving Club or DsCC is made up of Edale YHA staff and friends and is a small friendly club aimed at helping instructors gain experience and skills. We also intend to organise some digs and trips further afield. This site will be hosting the clubs website for the time being.

The Sutherland Lodge closing party went very well with a great turn out. Stuart and Heather both send thanks to all who could attend and those who left messages of support. Photos will no doubt be floating around facebook very soon. Last chance to see the place off as it officially changes hands on the 7th.
